The Hawaiian Islands are some of the most magical places to visit and I would like to invite you join in on a one of a kind painting experience. From January 15th to February 15, 2022, I plan to be painting on the island of Maui. If you would like to spend time in a beautiful, relaxing environment while learning how to paint watercolors I'd love for you to join in. Choose the days that works into your schedule so you get to experience everything Maui has to offer.
I plan to stay on the South side of the island in Kihei. There are many wonderful places to stay but I find Kihei to be the most conveniently located. We will be painting up and down the southern coast from Makena to Kaanapali, and all locations is within driving distance.
Please see below for flight and hotel packages.
We will be painting on local beaches, under rain forest canopies, beautiful coves, stunning beaches all with dramatic weather. There is an exciting painting subject around every corner. With the time difference from the mainland and for cooler temperatures we will have a combination of morning painting times starting at 8 AM, and a few afternoon times to catch the sunset, these will start at 2 PM.
See below for possible painting locations. Note: We will need to remain flexible on locations as weather and availability can change at the last minute.
Each day includes a 1 hour demonstration on location, and 3 hours of guided painting time. You can choose the days you want to paint to fit your schedule.
The groups will be kept to a minimum to allow adequate student/instructor time.
We will wrap up the day with a quick critique and question/answer period.

Many of our locations will have wonderful grassy area to sit and paint the clouds and waves of Maui. Watching the weather systems around the islands gives you a front row seat to see how an eco systems works. The warm air pushes ocean moisture up the sides of the volcanoes where it starts forming at the peak. Once it is full it descends down the valleys and releases all it's healing rain. Lots of sun or shade to set up in. Lunches, coffee and snacks for sale are always close by.
Hawaii has beautiful architecture and vistas to sketch and paint. One of my favorite places to paint is at this quiet beach. There is the cutest little church just up the way that's perfect to sketch and add to the background of your Maui scene. There's great lava flows to snorkel around and a long beach to run up and down. Bring your snorkel gear as their is a beautiful reef to snorkel or swim around.
The floral paintings that you can do in Hawaii are endless. My favorite flower by far is the Plumeria, their fragrance permeates everything. You will smell it on your clothes months after you come home. This Gardens is "Up Country" and has magnificent views. It is in the small town of Kula which is very picturesque in itself. The drive up country is always interesting and gives you a different perspective on the island away from the beaches. During this class we will painting all sorts of florals.
Lahaina has so many picturesque locations to paint from, there are huge banyan trees, cute architecture, boats, tourists, coffee shops, galleries, you name it. You can choose sun or shade or a combination of both, Lahaina has it all. Great restaurants for breakfast and lunch.
The view from Makena Landing has great lava structures and nice secluded bay with a black sand beach. This is a great place to sit and paint all the different types of palm trees, lava and playful waves. Great place to snorkel, bring your gear and take a break from painting and do a bit of snorkeling and swimming.
On this day, our adventure we will be starting later in the afternoon so we can get our drawings drawn before the sun sets. Once the sun start working it's magic we can start in with color into our watercolors, trying to capture that perfect mood with yellows and purples as the sun sinks into the Pacific.
